How to achieve maximum results with a skin resurfacing treatment.

How to achieve maximum results with a skin resurfacing treatment.

Laser rejuvenation and resurfacing is popular for many reasons. It offers a solution to wrinkles, fine lines, post-traumatic scars, acne scars, sun spots, freckles and/or aging and damaged skin. Many lasers perform best when completed in a series.  However, if you are looking for results in a single treatment, the ActiveFX Laser by Lumenis® is the laser for you.  ActiveFX fractional laser can improve a wide range of skin conditions while refreshing the overall appearance of the skin.

Every patient’s skin is different, which is why a consultation is so important. It provides the opportunity to assess the patient’s condition and do a thorough evaluation of the skin. . This laser uses a high-energy beam of light that causes the skin’s upper layer to peel off and regenerate a layer of healthy new skin.  This achieves a dramatic effect; however, it does require approximately five days of downtime, as your skin will have associated redness and peeling.  You will see a reduction of wrinkles and fine lines as well as a softening of deeper lines. You will also see improved skin tone and texture and immediate contraction of the skin with reduction in pore size. Additionally it stimulates new collagen, you will see plumping of the skin up to six months after the procedure!

Winter months are the optimum time to receive your laser treatment. Call our office today to schedule your complimentary consultation with Dr. Clarissa Kroese or Raquel Merlini, RN and turn back the clock on your skin. 248-524-0620.

ResurFX -Skin Resurfacing wit NO downtime!

The ResurFX Laser is my favorite! It is a non-ablative laser so there is little to no downtime with great results.  The ResurFX uses heat to stimulate the growth of collagen which improves the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, over all skin texture and pigmentation.  You can start to see results with just one treatment but we recommend 3-4 treatments, spaced 4-6 weeks apart, for maximum results. Once you finish the series of treatments you can maintain the results with one treatment per year.

Myself, and many of my patients, have extremely busy lifestyles and can’t afford to take time off from work and life to have ablative laser treatments that require 5-7 days of aftercare.  With the ResurFX Laser you can expect to be back to your regular schedule the very same day. Most people have a “mild sunburn” appearance for 1-2 days following treatment. There can be some mild swelling as well but nothing major.  We recommend staying out of the sun for a few days post treatment and, as always, wear your sunscreen!

The order in which you receive Aesthetic treatments is important

Botox before facials? Facials before lasers? In the world of aesthetics there are many types of treatments that range from noninvasive facials, aesthetic injections to comprehensive skin resurfacing lasers.  It’s important to receive these in the proper order to ensure the best aesthetic outcome.

Let’s start off with facials.  It is always best to receive your facial before any aesthetic injections. A facial involves massaging and rubbing of the face which can move the product to an area it was not intended for. Vigorous skin treatments such as microdermabrasion and microneedling could also cause the product to spread. If a neurotoxin, like Botox, disperses to a nearby muscle a side effect is droopy skin. This is commonly seen in the eyelid/brow area.  Therefore as a precautionary measure it is best to get the facial/vigorous treatment first or wait at least 2 weeks after receiving injections.

Lasers and treatments that are heat based are ideal before aesthetic injections. Most dermal fillers are made up of hyaluronic gel, which attract water and expand. Lasers that use heat may diminish the water content in the skin and the product, depending on the depth of the injection. Neurotoxin like Botox and Dysport are used to address wrinkles associated with facial animation. Heat causing treatments may cause swelling which could possibly diffuse the product to other areas. This means it is best to receive the laser treatment before any aesthetic injections.

The leading way to maintain a youthful face is to collaborate between non-surgical cosmetic procedures and the aesthetic treatment room. Knowledge is power and it is beneficial to know what sequence procedures are best performed in. This is something your Injector and Aesthetician can advise you on during a Skin Assessment/Skin Care Consultation. Our highly qualified team who will work with you to determine the best treatment plan for you. Call today to schedule your complimentary consultation. 248-524-0620.

Are you confused about Skin Resurfacing Lasers?

Posted November 30th, 2016 by Dr. Schenden and filed in Uncategorized

You may have heard about lasers for your skin but find yourself confused about how they work and the benefits. First of all you need to ask yourself what are your biggest concerns with your skin?   Is it that you feel you need tightening and firming or are you bothered by redness or brown sunspots? We are able to treat your concerns with our full line of top rated lasers.  Fall is the perfect time for laser treatments; for optimal results skin should not be tan from the sun.

Brown Spots/Rosacea

If you are currently regretting using baby oil and basking in the suns rays because you now have discoloration to your skin, then the IPL (Intense Pulse Light) treatment may be for you.  Not only does it target pigment but it also targets redness.  IPL can also help treat rosacea and help with those pesky small capillaries on your face that bother you the most.  IPL is used most commonly on the face, neck, chest and hands.  This procedure takes about 20 minutes and has minimal downtime.  You may need 3-5 sessions for optimal results.

Firming and Stimulating Collagen

Now if firming your skin and stimulating collagen are your major concerns then looking at our ResurFx Laser or Active FX laser would be great options for you.

ResurFX Laser is used for softening and diminishing fine lines and improving skin texture and overall skin appearance.  This procedure has minimal downtime as you will have some redness and possible mild swelling for only a day or two. ResurFX stimulates the production of new collagen and elastic fibers in the deeper layers of the skin.  Optimal results are seen after 3-5 treatments and you will continue to see results up to six months following the treatment.

You can also combine the IPL and ResurFX on the same day for a Photofractional laser result, which works to minimize pigment and/or redness and tighten the skin while stimulating collagen. Combining these lasers may provide quicker results of the ResurFX.

Active FX Laser provides the maximum treatment you get in a single treatment setting. You will also see improved skin tone and texture, immediate contraction of the skin with reduction in pore size, and because it stimulates new collagen, you will see plumping of the skin up to six months after the procedure.

To find out more about each of these fabulous options and discuss what may benefit you and your skin the most, please call and schedule a free consultation with me at 248-524-0620.  I hope to see you soon.
